Week 29: Graphic Problems and Steam Summer Sales

  • New computer - Check
  • Monitor - Check
  • Power Cables - Check now
  • Compatibility between new computer and old monitor, Still working on that...
Here's the deal. I have a graphics card that I guess thinks that everything should be widescreen, even when my monitor isn't a widescreen monitor.  Even when I specify that the monitor isn't widescreen, it thinks it is. Then again, it could be compatibility issues not with the graphics card, but the specific programs itself. If that is the case, we're going to have a bad time, and by we I mean me.

Thankfully though, my laptop is still for the most part fully functional. I have gotten fully use to my M570 Trackball mouse and am now wondering how I ever functioned fully before it. Then my finger slips on the track pad on my laptop, making me type elsewhere in the paragraph and I remember, since the track pad doesn't disable. Thanks track pad!

With my laptop though I have been participating in the Steam 2012 Summer Sale. Here is what I have so far.

  • Portal 2: Because I have played Portal 1 and need some Aperture goodness. Not to mention it's a valve game and thus having that gives me more stuff in Garry's Mod. That and multiplayer lead me to the second purchase.
  • Left 4 Dead bundle. This included both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. I've played them on other computers but now I get multiplayer. That and Garry's Mod stuff.
  • My final purchase is ARMA 2: Combined Operations. Have I actually bought this yet? No. Do I plan on buying it before the Steam sale ends though? Abso-freaking-lutely. It's not just for the popular mod DayZ (Zombies for those who don't know), but I have gotten genuinely interested in the realism the game offers and would like to play the heck out of it.
This Steam sale has come with consequences though. I currently have to wait for my next job to even think about getting a new monitor. I may have to get one sooner for the new computer but until then I'll just take it slow on setting it up for podcasting and such. Yet another delay on that...
